1930
Volta Oil’s history began in 1930, when Harold S. Volta opened a Texaco gasoline station. Over the years, Volta became a multi-product petroleum distributor – wholesaling and retailing gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, home heating and industrial oils, kerosene, and L.P. gas.
1976
Jim Garrett purchases Volta after Harold Volta retires.
1978
Volta Oil remodeled its four gas stations with modern pumps, canopies and full-serve gas at self-serve prices.
1979
Volta Oil acquires Sears Fuel, a Plymouth-based heating oil and propane retailer.
1983
Bruce Garrett joins Volta Oil in the service department.
1987
Volta enhances its distribution of ValvTect products to marinas and on road fleets, offering branded marine fuels and Diesel Guard branded diesel.
1988
Volta expands its branded offering by adding the Gulf Brand to go along with the Texaco brand.
1991
Peter Garrett joins Volta Oil as a dispatcher, and Volta creates a transportation division with one transport and two bobtails.
Volta opens its first convenience store in Falmouth, MA.
1993
Volta adds the Sunoco franchise to its branded offering for wholesale customers.
1997
Volta acquires Mobil distributor Hubbard Oil and expands its presence on Cape Cod, MA.
1999
Stephen Garrett joins the Volta team as an IT administrator.
2000
Volta Oil Company launches its Rapid Refill brand of convenience stores.
2007
Volta Acquires CW Fuels, expands its commercial fleet business, and grows its footprint in New Hampshire.
2008
Volta Oil purchases Dependable Petroleum and transitions into a full service petroleum repair and installation contractor.
2013
Volta expands its branded wholesale offering with the Shell brand.
2019
Volta Oil Company launches its first Garrett’s Family Market convenience store brand in Milford, MA.
2020
Volta Oil Company launches its second and third Garrett’s Family Market convenience store brands in Centerville and Falmouth, MA.
Today
Today, Volta wholesales and retails gasoline and diesel fuel under six major brands (Shell, Exxon, Mobil, Sunoco, Gulf and CITGO) and its own Rapid Refill and Garrett’s Family Market brand through terminals in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut. The Volta Oil Family convenience stores are in operation in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, some of which include other national brands like Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, and Subway. Volta services hundreds of customers throughout New England, including convenience stores, traditional service stations, marinas and commercial and industrial customers. No matter where you find us, you can count on us to deliver total service you can trust.
